I'm listening to the new album by the (I guess) supergroup Works Progress Administration. This group is built around three talented guys: Glen Phillips from Toad the Wet Sprocket, Sean Watkins of Nickel Creek, and Luke Bulla, a violinist/guitarist/singer who's played with Lyle Lovett and others.
Rounding out the band are Sara Watkins (Sean's violin-playing sister in Nickel Creek), Benmont Tench (Tom Petty's great keyboadist), Greg Leisz (another excellent multi-instrumentalist known for lap and pedal steel, whose played with Bill Frisell and Joni Mitchell among many others), Pete Thomas (longtime Elvis Costello drummer), and Davey Faragher (bassist in Cracker as well as Elvis Costello's band the Imposters).
You can download the album here and set your own price, as long as it's $10 and up. A nice feature of the download is that each song has a separate illustration, done in the Depression-era Federal Art Project style. I think some of these may be based on actual posters, but it's hard to say. You can listen to the tunes and watch some video at their website.
I'm jazzed to see them at the Independent at the end of the month. And, oh look, they have an embedded player:
